Battery Charging for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
Automated guided vehicles or AGVs have become increasingly sophisticated and used in many different industries. From warehouses to amusement rides, AGVs are used extensively and require unique solutions to meet their energy requirements.
VAHLE offers a variety of solutions for battery charging or direct powering of AGVs or any free roaming vehicle. Our BLS/BLK Charging Contacts can be installed directly on the vehicle and allow charging stations at any point the vehicle stops. This method allows for multiple charging points along the entire line, such as during stop in production or switches/transfers. In addition to the charging plates, VAHLE also offers an inductive solution – VAHLE CPS. By installing a VAHLE CPS system along the travel path the batteries can be charged at any point or the vehicle can be powered directly. VAHLE contactless power systems (CPS) offer inductive based power delivery for any mobile consumer. It allows the user no limit on travel speed or acceleration, little to no maintenance and is ideal for any clean room applications.
AGV Battery Charging System Assemblies
A battery-charging contact consists of a contact plate, which is mounted on the floor in the track of the AGV (automatic guided vehicle) or, in some cases, also to the side, and a current collector, which is mounted on the AGV. Power is supplied to the contact plate on site by a battery charging device. The contacts are activated by the central computer of the AGV once it has reached the charging position and the collector has made contact with the base plate. The contact plate, used for floor contact, is equipped with diagonal run-on surfaces, which enable a relatively smooth, low-wear travel of the spring-cushioned current collector.
Through the development of high-power batteries, which enable battery charging in seconds, today the charging process can be integrated into the normal flow of operations, without requiring removal of the AGV (automatic guided vehicle) needing charging.
Battery-charging stations can be installed anywhere wait times are generated due to processing (e.g., in buffer stages, turn-around points, stops, etc).
